Your kid's mouths, into the best hands

It seems evident that the best medical treatment that exists is that which doesn’t need to be done. To preserve healthy teeth it is advisable to maintain a series of healthy habits. In the first place, it is essential to have a healthy diet. Refined sugars and flours (biscuits, buns, cakes, sweets, etc) are what feed the bacteria that provoke caries and which are present in all mouths. Therefore, a diet rich in sugary foods tends to be associated with significant caries problems.

A varied and healthy diet is the most advisable (fruit, vegetables, meat, fish and especially foods rich in calcium such as milk, or yoghurt). A few minutes after eating, bacteria in the mouth begin to produce acids which demineralise the teeth. Eating a little cheese after meals is a good trick to delay this process.

When a bacteria-friendly environment reigns in the mouth, frequently caries and gum inflammation problems arise. To change this environment and turn it into a less problematic one, in addition to a healthy diet a series of hygiene habits should be followed which are simple but which must be carried out regularly. One of them is the correct brushing of teeth, if possible after every meal. Another is the routine use of mouthwashes to rinse the mouth. There are specific mouthwashes for each type of patient. The fluoride mouthwashes, for example, are extremely effective in the prevention of dental caries.

Another type of preventive treatment that has shown great effectiveness in the prevention of caries is the opening, cleaning and hermetic sealing of fissures in molars.

Molar fissures constitute a corner that toothbrushes cannot reach. This is why they tend to accumulate bacteria which end up generating 90% of caries in children from 6-14 years of age. They are almost always quick caries that tend not to cause any discomfort until they are very advanced. It is necessary to remember that dental tissue does not have the capacity to regenerate and, therefore, every micron of dental structure damaged through caries is lost forever. The sealing of these fissures prior to the appearance of caries effectively maintains their health and integrity for years. However, there are different ways of carrying out this type of treatment, with different results relating to effectiveness and duration.

The regular practice of these hygiene measures and prevention techniques together with a check-up every 6 months will ensure the simple preservation of healthy teeth for life.

  1. The progression of the dentine (interior) is always faster than on the exterior (enamel).
  2. Image from the electronic microscope of the quantity of detritus that accumulates in molar fissures and which will generate caries. Minimal superficial tinctions in the fissure can hide processes of caries.
  3. Cut in the fissure of a stained molar where the corners that are inaccessible to toothbrushes
